The Opry was purchased August 13, 1990 by the current owners Jesse and Martha Betts of Amory Mississippi. Remodeling immediately began and today hundreds travel from all over the South to visit. The Opry Old Country Restaurant, known to many in the area as the "Main Street Opry" is one of the most unique restaurants in Mississippi. Located about three hours from Memphis Tennessee, three hours from Jackson Mississippi and Birmingham Alabama makes it a very popular tourist attraction. People visit not only to enjoy a delicious meal but to view the hundreds of pieces of memorabilia on the walls and in special locations through out the restaurant. Many of the items there are truly antiques, one of a kind items only seen in museums. But most people come not only for the mouth watering food but for some of the finest entertainment this side of Nashville.Tour groups are always welcome. There is plenty of bus parking in the rear of the building.
The Opry can seat more than 250 people (some prefer the balcony) with a 50's and 60's atmosphere perfect for birthday parties for all ages. We have private meeting rooms available day and night. Gospel groups such as the Kingsmen, Primitive Perry's, Charles Johnson, David and the Giants and Darrell Luther have performed on the Old Opry's stage. Country Music Stars such as "Freddie Fender" and others have brought crowds from hundreds of miles away.
The "warming up" show performed every Friday night with the best of Southern Gospel music has been a tradition for about ten years and brings a variety of Christian performers with hundreds of local groups and soloists as special guests.
Some of which include "The Chosen Ones" of Booneville Mississippi the "Endurers" of Hallieville Alabama, "Gospel Ship Quartet" of Pontotoc Mississippi, the "Gospel Messengers" of Nettleton Mississippi and the "Gospel Travelers" of West Point Mississippi. Buddy and Kay Bain formerly of "The Morning Show" airing on WTVA in North East Mississippi are among the past performers. Over the years the Opry has hosted so much talent until it would take us a week just to list them all.
The building also houses a music store from 1990 until 1997. For years WAMY radio station broadcast from the Opry with live broadcasts every Friday night.
Today the Opry Old Country Restaurant opens it's doors every Friday and Saturday night at 6:00pm for dinner and the best of country music. The Opry Old Country Restaurant is an alcohol and smoke free facility that you can take your whole family for an evening of some of the most enjoyable food and music you will ever have.
